Blocked Bath Drain in Glasgow

A blocked bath drain makes itself obvious the moment you run the taps. Water rises in the tub instead of draining away, and a bath that should be relaxing becomes something you are watching anxiously. Unlike a slow shower drain that you might put up with for weeks, a blocked bath drain stops you from using the bath properly and needs sorting.

Bath drains block differently from shower drains. The waste systems are more varied, pop-up wastes, plug and chain, click-clack mechanisms, overflow pipes, and the blockages inside them tend to involve not just hair but also the waxy residue left by bath oils, bath salts and bath bombs, which coat the inside of the waste pipe and bind everything else together. Older cast-iron baths in Glasgow's pre-war tenement properties often have original waste configurations that have been collecting debris for decades.

ClearFlow clears blocked bath drains across Glasgow and the surrounding area. David and Chris deal with all types of bath waste systems, clear the full pipe run rather than just the trap, and give you a fixed price before starting so there are no surprises when the job is done.

Signs you need blocked bath drain

  • Water rising in the bath while the taps are running and not draining away

  • Bath draining much more slowly than it used to after you have finished

  • Standing water still sitting in the tub ten or more minutes after bathing

  • Gurgling sounds from the bath plughole or the overflow

  • Unpleasant smell coming from the bath drain or the overflow opening

  • Water backing up into the bath when another fixture nearby drains

  • Pop-up waste or click-clack mechanism sitting correctly but water still not draining

  • Bath completely blocked with no water passing through at all

Our process

  1. 1

    Call or message us

Speak to David or Chris directly. We ask about the type of bath and waste system, how long the problem has been developing and whether the overflow is also affected. We give you a fixed price before we travel.

  2. 2

    Price confirmed in writing

You get the price by text or email before the engineer sets off. No call-out fee, no extras on the invoice.

  3. 3

    On site same day

We aim to be with you same day across Glasgow. For urgent callouts we can often be there within 15 to 45 minutes.

  4. 4

    Clear the waste system properly

We assess the type of bath waste, remove the trap and clear the full waste run using mechanical clearing for hair and soap blockages, or jetting where grease, oil residue or scale is involved. If the overflow pipe is also affected we clear that separately. If the bath keeps blocking we run a camera to investigate further.

  5. 5

    Test and confirm

We fill the bath and confirm it drains fully and freely before we leave. We let you know what caused it and how to reduce the chance of it happening again.

Common causes

What Causes a Blocked Bath Drain?

Bath drain blockages in Glasgow properties tend to have a few consistent causes. The type of waste system matters too, older baths often have trap configurations that collect debris more readily than modern ones, and the waste pipes in older Glasgow properties may not have been properly cleared in years.

Hair

The primary cause of blocked bath drains, just as it is with shower drains. Long hair in particular collects at the trap and on any joint or roughness in the waste pipe, binding with soap and oil residue until the pipe is completely blocked.

Bath oil and bath product residue

Bath oils, bath bombs and bath salts leave a waxy coating inside the waste pipe that does not wash away with normal water flow. Over time this residue builds up, narrows the pipe bore and traps hair and debris. This is something shower drains deal with less often and bath drains far more.

Soap scum

Bar soap and shower gel residue solidify inside the waste pipe and combine with hair to form a dense blockage. Older cast-iron bath waste pipes in Glasgow tenements are particularly prone to soap scum accumulation.

Pop-up waste or plug mechanism faults

Pop-up wastes, click-clack plugs and combination overflow-waste units can partially close or stick, restricting drainage without there being a blockage in the pipe itself. We check the mechanism as well as the pipe.

Blocked overflow pipe

The overflow pipe prevents the bath from flooding but it can block independently of the main waste. If the overflow smells or water backs up through it, the overflow pipe needs clearing separately.

Scale buildup in older pipework

Cast-iron and lead bath waste pipes in pre-war Glasgow tenements narrow from mineral scale over decades. Combined with hair and soap, scale-narrowed pipes block more quickly and need more thorough clearing.

Good news: every one of these has a clean, proven fix, and we'll show you exactly what we found.

We clear the full waste run

Clearing just the trap fixes it for a week. We clear the pipe from trap to stack so it stays clear.

Same-day service

Most blocked bath drain jobs are done same day with no waiting around.

What We Use to Clear a Blocked Bath Drain

For hair, soap and bath product blockages we use electro-mechanical clearing equipment that breaks up and removes the compacted mass inside the waste pipe. This is far more effective than chemicals, which only soften the surface of the blockage and push it further along the pipe, and more thorough than a manual drain snake from a hardware shop.

Where bath oil residue, scale or long-term grease buildup is involved, high-pressure water jetting at up to 4,000 PSI cleans the full bore of the waste pipe from trap to stack. It removes the coating from the inside wall of the pipe rather than just clearing a channel through the middle of the blockage.

If a bath drain has been slow for a long time or keeps coming back, we run an HD CCTV camera into the waste pipe to check the condition of the pipework and identify any structural issues. We show you what we find and explain the options before any additional work is agreed.

Transparent pricing

No call-out fee. You only pay if you go ahead, and the price is confirmed in writing before we start. No extras added at the end.

Same-day service is priced the same as any other booking. There is no premium for short notice or weekend appointments.

If the camera identifies a pipe issue that needs a repair, we provide a separate written quote and nothing proceeds without your agreement.

Fixed price agreed before any work starts.

What Our Clients Say

Real reviews from Glasgow households and businesses we've helped.

"I had major issues with my drainage caused by ground movement. The ground had to be dug up and a new drainage system put in. This was done efficiently and to a very high standard, the workmen were legends, absolutely brilliant. My slabs were all put back exactly as they were before. I highly recommend this company."
